Recently completed student work
Some Hardanger and smøyg
Recently I’ve received a few lovely emails from students who have finished projects they started with me in classes. I always say to my students that I LOVE seeing photos of finished works, even if it’s ten years down the track! None of these were quite that long!
First was Kate, who finished her impeccably stitched smøyg sampler. She explained that towards the end she had slowed down her stitching, because she just didn’t want it to end! What a lovely thing to say! Kate started this project with me in Melbourne at The Embroiderers Guild, Victoria some years ago.
Next, we had Jacinta from Cairns, who sent me this photo only about a week after my recent beginners Hardanger class ended! She had this to say, “While it’s far from perfect I’m not going back to fix the eyelets that could be improved upon. They show a journey and progress is better than perfection.” I heartily agree, Jacinta, and you’ve stitched it beautifully.
Not long after that came Margaret’s beautiful work. “Many thanks once again for your patience, kindness and expertise at the beginners’ weekend. I have finished my piece and made errors I can’t begin to unpick but will continue stitching hardanger, and improve. It was a wonderful workshop, thank you again.”
I’ll say it again - I love to see your finished works of my designs. Whether they were from one of my classes or are from one of my books, I love to celebrate your successes! I will only share the photos if I have permission from you, and you can say how you would like to be credited - it can be anonymous if that’s what you prefer.
This coming weekend I’ll be having my Dutch Heart Frisian Whitework Sampler workshop here in Walcha. A full class that I’m really looking forward to.
