Dutch Heart Frisian Whitework workshop
On the weekend, here in Walcha (NSW, Australia) I ran a successful workshop with ten eager participants learning the Dutch Heart Frisian Whitework Sampler. I enjoyed the weekend immensely, and from what the participants said, they did too. When students leave at the end of a class saying, “Thank you. I learnt SO much!” it really is lovely to hear.
They learnt new stitches and new ways to do stitches, and we talked a lot about planning your path through a motif so that you can successfully get all parts of it done. The standard of stitching was very high across the entire class, and it was lovely to see their beautiful stitching.
We had an enjoyable dinner together at the pub on Saturday night with partners who had travelled with class participants. Participants and/or their travelling companions also enjoyed some of the local activities in and around Walcha, such as the Walcha Farmers’ Market on Saturday morning, a polocrosse carnival, “It’s not a Trainset”, and Walcha Parkrun. Attendees at the farmers’ market were treated to an impromptu performance on the bagpipes by the husband of one of my class participants, giving Barb (accordian) and Howard (banjo) who usually play at the markets a bit of a run for their money!
My aim is always that participants go away from my classes feeling happy and satisfied with what they’ve learnt and that the whole experience was so wonderful that they’d love to come again, and would recommend a weekend class in Walcha with me to their friends.
There is a chance that I will run one more class in Walcha this year, on the October long weekend. If that interests you, please keep an eye on my website, here or on my socials. The class project has not yet been decided.
Forthcoming classes
Bordado de Guimarães online workshop
On Thursday 23rd April (NY time)/Friday 24th April (Sydney time), I will be teaching an online workshop for TATTER on Bordado de Guimarães/ Guimarães embroidery from Portugal. This workshop will be 2.5 hours long, consisting of a talk on the embroidery, and then a demonstration of me stitching the project. Participants are welcome to stitch along with me, or watch and then stitch along later with the recording.
Bookings can be made through TATTER. I believe they will also have a supplies pack available to purchase. For those who wish to purchase the supplies for the class from this side of the world, please contact me: yvette at vettycreations dot com dot au (changing the words to symbols where appropriate).
EGA Seminar 2026 Virtual Classes
I have two virtual/online classes coming up this year for the Embroiderers’ Guild of America national seminar. Enrolments for these classes are open to EGA members and non members, though my understanding is that the non-member price will be a little higher than the member price. Bookings open on 14th April. I suggest you don’t delay in booking, because I have no idea how quickly these classes will fill (I haven’t taught in the US since 2019, so people might be clamouring!) and I wouldn’t want you to miss out.
Exploring Hardanger Fillings
August 26, September 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 2026, online
This sampler focuses on intricate and lesser-known Hardanger filling stitches, with special attention to achieving the right tension so the stitches truly “sing.” Working on 28-count linen with pearl cotton, you’ll learn eleven different fillings, along with pulled thread stitches such as four-sided, cable, and diamond eyelets. Ideal for those wanting to refine their Hardanger skills in a structured and supportive environment.
This class will run over 6 weeks (August-September 2026), and is the equivalent of a three day class. The format will be a one hour online zoom-style session each week to introduce the week’s learnings and celebrate your successes from the previous week. All instruction will take place via pre-recorded online videos that students will work through in their own time.
This is an advanced intermediate level class for experienced Hardanger stitchers. Students must be competent with satin stitch and kloster blocks, and must stitch them (accurately) before the class using a provided chart – they will not be taught in class. No kit is included in the class fee – each student to provide supplies for class – a detailed list of supplies needed will be provided.
If you’re more local to me, here in Australia, for those who wish to purchase the supplies for the class from this side of the world, please contact me: yvette at vettycreations dot com dot au (changing the words to symbols where appropriate).
Bookings open 14th April, 2026 - don’t miss out!
Billions of Bullions
October 21, 2026, online
Ok, maybe not billions! If bullion knots have ever frustrated you, this class will help. Many find them tricky, so I’ll show you a method that you may not have tried before which is successful for many. We’ll experiment with wrapping direction, tapering bullions (how to achieve or fix them), and what to do when your bullion becomes a nightmare of knots. This class has no specific project—just focused stitch exploration and technique improvement. The attached photo is for inspiration only.
This is the equivalent of a half day class, and will have a one hour online introductory session, and instruction will be via pre-recorded video for students to work through in their own time. The workshop is for stitchers of any level of proficiency.

I was thinking if I spent all summer stitching Hardanger, maybe I'd be ready for the EGA intensive? Since I do have a start with Ukrainian merezhka, which overlaps some? Nah, that wouldn't work and would be unfair to the other participants with actual skills. I am signing/signed up for the other two, though! Thanks so much for offering them--I know that online teaching isn't your favorite.
